Singapore Maritime Week 2024, themed “Actions Meet Ambition”, returned for its annual flagship event as a gathering for global maritime leaders and industry enthusiasts. The event featured conference tracks on decarbonisation, AI, low-carbon fuels, maritime drones, evolving maritime services, cybersecurity, and talent attraction.
The event also included a three-day trade exhibition from 16 – 18 April where CARES joined 50 exhibitors to showcase interactive maritime research tools from our programme and enhance our presence in this field.
The CARES booth featured the centre’s maritime decarbonisation stories such as drone support to monitor gas leaks and measure shipping emissions, and research into new combustion models for dual-fuel systems. The interactive tools at the booth included The World Avatar™ dynamic knowledge graph to simulate and assess pollutant dispersion.
Visitors interested in start-ups had a chance to speak with the founders of CARES spin-off EMICAST and 3Y Energy to discuss ways of transforming the sustainability of future ships either through emissions forecasting or retrofitting legacy engines.

Unique highlights from the event included a short presentation on the trade exhibition Tech Stage by Cambridge PI for the maritime decarbonisation group Prof Epaminondas Mastorakos, and an invitation to the UK Maritime Networking Reception where the CARES spin-off founders had a chance to meet with high-level industry leaders.
The CARES booth was a great success and in a short time, allowed the team to meet with many industry representatives and explain how their research and spin-offs are at a stage for commercial application. Furthermore, CARES enhanced our position in this field by meeting with country representatives and addressing on-the-ground queries and ideas for feedback on future developments at the centre.

Singapore Maritime Week was hosted by the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore. The maritime research showcased at this event is supported by the National Research Foundation, Prime Minister’s Office, Singapore under its Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE) programme.
