On Monday 22 July, the newly launched CREATE Thematic Programme in Decarbonisation worth SGD$90 million was unveiled at CREATE Symposium 2024.
The programme will be supported by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and aims to leverage the research partners in the CREATE programme in a variety of domains from hydrogen utilisation, ammonia energy, fuel cells, green chemistry, synthetic biology, and chemical translation for sustainable biofuels and pharmaceuticals.

CARES was involved in forming the latest Decarbonisation Programme by leading scanning workshops on the capacity for green chemistry research in Singapore. Furthermore, the decade-long Centre for Carbon Reduction in Chemical Technologies (C4T) programme by CARES has built the centre’s expertise in areas such as sustainable reaction engineering, carbon capture, electrochemistry, combustion, and maritime decarbonisation.

During the symposium, CARES showcased new innovations including the EMICAST climate calculator, which supports the sustainability of maritime operations through advanced carbon accounting and forecasting techniques. Additionally, The World Avatar project was presented, demonstrating its capability to integrate vast data for insights into decarbonisation across various sectors.
Researchers from the Centre for Lifelong Learning and Individualised Cognition (CLIC) joined the showcase by allowing users to test several creative tasks used in their studies to investigate cognitive flexibility in adolescents and adults.
NRF’s latest Decarbonisation Programme represents a significant leap towards achieving Singapore’s net-zero emissions goal by 2050, aligning with the broader objectives of the Singapore Green Plan. CARES will remain committed to advancing research and leveraging the partnerships of other international partners in the CREATE research environment.
CREATE Symposium is an annual event hosted by the National Research Foundation in Singapore to highlight the latest outcomes from the CREATE programme. More information on the CREATE programme can be obtained from www.create.edu.sg
