CARES will enter a new management structure in 2025 with Prof Markus Kraft, the Founding Director of Cambridge CARES, stepping down at the end of 2024.

Moving forward, the four-person Directorship will be shared between:

  • Prof Dame Lynn Gladden (Director of Research and Strategy)
  • Prof Alexei Lapkin (Director of Entrepreneurship)
  • Prof Epaminondas Mastorakos (Director of Industrial Relations)
  • Prof Henriette Hendriks (Director of Education and Skills)

Prof Gladden has a longstanding connection with CARES having been Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research at the University of Cambridge (2010-2016) and playing a key role in the centre’s founding. Prof Lapkin, Prof Mastorakos, and Prof Hendriks are all leading CARES research programmes, these are SM3, HYCOMBS, and CLIC respectively.

The new structure will provide a fair representation of CARES across our decarbonisation and human health-related projects, championing each individual’s strength for the Singapore research landscape.

For day-to-day activities, the Chief of Staff role held by Ms Elizabeth MacRae will convert to Chief Operating Officer to bridge the gap between research and operations.

We bid farewell to Prof Kraft as he moves on to lead the MIT Energy Initiative in Boston, Massachusetts, and acknowledge his monumental work in helping CARES scale its first decade of success.

CARES will continue to serve as a base for projects between the UK and Singapore.

For all queries relating to this change, please email Ms Elizabeth MacRae (elizabeth.macrae@admin.cam.ac.uk).
