Jacqueline Garget from central Cambridge visited CARES for a two-week knowledge exchange visit in March 2025. With her background in Research Communications for the School of Biological Sciences, Jacqueline shared her experience and best practices to strengthen collaboration between the research communications functions of Cambridge and CARES.
During her visit, Jacqueline met with researchers and Professors from various research programmes to learn about the ongoing work and spin-offs at CARES and provided advice on how to publicise CARES research outwardly and within Cambridge.
She also met with other Communications counterparts in the CREATE programme from TUMCREATE and the Singapore-ETH Centre for an informal discussion on the research communications landscape in Singapore.

Internal communications workshop
CARES researchers gained insight into Jacqueline’s experience with press release writing and securing media coverage for Cambridge research in outlets such as the BBC, Guardian, New York Times, Le Monde, and El Pais.
Other speakers for the international communications workshop were Oliver Francis, Head of Strategic Communications at the MRC Epidemiology Unit, and Olivia Lee, Communications Manager at CARES. They shared their experience conducting policy impact in the UK and communications activities by CARES in recent years.

External engagements and events
Jacqueline joined other outreach activities hosted by CARES, including the CARES booth at Singapore Maritime Week, a large-scale event for exhibitors from R&D centres and the industry to demonstrate the latest maritime technologies and facilitate collaboration.
The event provided a wider perspective on CARES’ spin-off activities in the maritime field and our ambition to establish industry connections for related projects such as the Hydrogen and Ammonia Combustion in Singapore (HYCOMBS) project.
This year, CARES had the privilege of hosting Gates Cambridge in Singapore to support its outreach activities and scholarship interviews in Singapore. This gave Jacqueline the chance to learn more about CARES’ growing presence for Cambridge’s activities in the region, and a first-hand look into the centre’s operations for research and internal collaboration.
