Profile

Elizabeth MacRae
Chief Operating Officer
Having previously been involved in research in the areas of cancer, immunology, infectious diseases, skin stem cells and autoimmune disease at several academic institutes, including a two-year visiting researcher post at Harvard School of Public Health, and a number of research papers, Elizabeth moved over into research management whilst at the University of Cambridge.
Having initially managed facilities for the Head of the Department of Medicine at Cambridge, Elizabeth moved on to manage the Department of Zoology for seven years. Elizabeth reorganised the teaching and technical staff and facilities in Zoology before moving on to a larger project. This included project managing the David Attenborough Building refurbishment (a 72 million GBP project) and relocation of the Museum of Zoology and its 200 million+ zoological specimens, including rehanging a 21m long, 100+year-old, fin back whale skeleton in a purpose-built entrance hall. Alongside this, she worked with architects to help create a creative working space for the Cambridge Conservation Initiative, also housed within the David Attenborough Building, comprising a number of NGOs, charities and University entities including Flora and Fauna International, Birdlife, RSPB and others. Elizabeth also had the honour of completing the risk assessment that allowed Sir David Attenborough to abseil down the new green wall housed in the atrium of the Cambridge Conservation Initiative during its opening ceremony.
Ready for a new challenge, Elizabeth then moved to the Department of Clinical Biochemistry/Institute of Metabolic Science, on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, where she was appointed as the Business and Operations Manager. Following a successful two-year core staff and services overhaul at Clinical Biochemistry/IMS, she moved to Singapore for her new appointment as the CARES Chief of Staff in 2024 and as of 1 Jan 2025, forms the fully-Singapore-based part of the new CARES management structure as the Chief Operating Officer.
